Description

The COSWHEEL GT20 Max is the ultimate 2.0 version of Coswheel’s GT20 series. With its dual removable Samsung batteries (60V 25Ah + 15Ah, totalling 2400 Wh), 1500W nominal rear motor and full suspension, it stands as a high-performance all-terrain fat bike built for adventures off the beaten track. Its motorcycle-inspired styling and premium components make it a standout in the versatile electric bike category.

Who is this bike for?

This model is particularly suited for:

  • Off-road and all-terrain enthusiasts
  • Riders seeking exceptional range (up to 233 km in PAS mode)
  • Users needing a high maximum load capacity (150 kg)
  • Those wanting motorcycle-level power and style in an electric bike
  • Adventurers who ride day or night thanks to the integrated Angel Eye lighting

Performance and range

The COSWHEEL GT20 Max features a brushless rear hub motor with 1500W nominal power (2000W peak) on a 60V system. Its 120 Nm of torque allows it to tackle the steepest climbs with ease.

  • Claimed range: up to 233 km in pedal-assist mode (PAS)
  • Range in throttle-only mode: over 128 km
  • Dual removable batteries: 25 Ah + 15 Ah = 40 Ah / 2400 Wh (Samsung 18650 lithium cells)
  • Factory-limited speed: 25 km/h (can be derestricted following manufacturer instructions)

In real-world conditions, range depends on:

  • Selected assistance level (3 PAS levels)
  • Rider and cargo weight
  • Terrain profile (flat, climbing, off-road)
  • Use of the thumb throttle

Equipment and comfort

The GT20 Max is generously equipped:

  • Full suspension: adjustable 20-inch front fork with 80 mm travel and rear shock with 180 mm travel (850 lb rating)
  • Braking: dual-piston hydraulic disc brakes with 180 mm stainless steel rotors
  • Transmission: Shimano 7-speed derailleur to match cadence on every climb
  • Tyres: ARISUN all-terrain 20x4.0-inch, 60 TPI, puncture-resistant
  • Lighting: 120-lux Angel Eye headlight + LED rear light with dual indicators
  • Throttle: responsive thumb lever for instant power delivery
  • Saddle: long, comfortable seat inspired by motorcycle styling
  • Frame: hydroformed 6061-T6 aluminium alloy with triple variable wall thickness

Strengths

✔ Dual removable Samsung batteries for record 233 km range
✔ 1500W nominal motor with 120 Nm torque for any gradient
✔ High-quality full suspension front and rear
✔ Dual-piston hydraulic brakes equal to the bike’s performance
✔ 150 kg maximum load capacity, ideal for larger riders or cargo
✔ Reliable and well-known Shimano 7-speed transmission
✔ Distinctive, refined motorcycle-inspired styling
✔ Powerful lighting for night riding

Weaknesses

❌ Significant weight (≥ 45 kg), making manual transport difficult
❌ High price (€2299), suited to larger budgets
❌ Bulky size, poorly suited to small storage spaces
❌ Ambiguity regarding European road legality (see below)

Comparison and positioning

The COSWHEEL GT20 Max sits above the GT20 and GT20 Pro in the Coswheel range thanks to its dual battery, more powerful motor and full suspension. Against competitors such as Lankeleisi or equivalent all-terrain fat bikes, it excels with its exceptional range and high-quality braking system.

Important note on homologation: Coswheel states that the speed is limited to 25 km/h at the factory and that the motor can be displayed as 250W to comply with European regulations. However, the actual nominal power is 1500W and the bike is designed to be derestricted. This configuration — high nominal power, unlockable speed, optional 250W display — is common practice among certain brands but does not in itself guarantee valid road homologation in Europe. The lack of a clearly identified officially homologated version at the time of purchase is a point of caution. If you wish to ride legally on public roads in France or Europe, consult the relevant authorities before buying.

This bike is for you if

✔ you want an all-terrain fat bike with maximum range
✔ you want the best model in Coswheel’s GT20 range
✔ you weigh up to 150 kg and need a robust bike
✔ you mainly ride off-road on trails, beaches or paths
✔ you have no weight or storage constraints

This bike is NOT for you if

❌ you are looking for a lightweight, easily transportable bike
❌ you need a clearly road-legal bike in Europe
❌ your budget is under €2000
❌ you lack space for storage
❌ you mainly do short, flat urban commutes
